Step 3: Adding the Salt
Now let's start cooking!
Add cold water to the pot but don't add salt yet.
Place the pot over high heat and wait for it to boil. You can use a lid to help bring the water up to a boil more quickly.
When the water starts boiling, add the salt (fine or coarse).
What is the correct amount of salt? The general rule is to add 10 g of salt (about 2 teaspoons) for every liter of water (40 oz). Pasta tastes better when cooked in salted water.
