How to Stretch Pizza Dough
Remember how you divided the pizza dough into smaller portions after it rested in the fridge for 20-24 hours? You had to decide whether you were going to serve your pizzas round or in a rectangular/square baking pan. Now we want to show you how to stretch each one out! 🤓
All you need is a large tray with lots of semolina flour which will provide the dough with a non-stick surface to stretch as well as give your pizza a crisp golden-brown crust.
How to Stretch Round Pizza Dough
If you divided your pizza dough into smaller portions of 250 g (8.8 oz) each to make round pizza, here is how to stretch it out. Once you're done, top it with your favorite ingredients or make a focaccia.
Baking stones. When it comes to homemade round pizzas, baking stones are a great and inexpensive option. Also called a pizza stone, this portable cooking surface is made of ceramic or stone and you place it inside your oven. By cooking the pizza directly on it, the baking stone mimics the conditions in brick ovens by absorbing heat from your oven and ensuring that your pizza is cooked evenly.
If you don't have one, then just place your pizza on a baking pan greased with extra virgin olive oil.
How to Stretch Pizza Dough on a Baking Tray
If you divided your pizza dough into larger portions to make pizza on a square or rectangular baking pan, then you may have a large group of friends to share it with. 😀 All you need to do is stretch it out and place it on a baking pan greased with extra virgin olive oil.
Tip. If you have a hard time stretching the dough all the way to the edges, don't force it. Leave the dough on the pan to rest for a few minutes. Once it relaxes, it easily stretches.
You are now ready to add your favorite topping and bake the pizza in the oven. What pizza will you make?
If you want to make Roman white pizza instead, then wait because the dough needs to rise on the tray for another 20 minutes before it goes into the oven.
