Aperol Spritz

Wherever you go in Italy, this sunset orange drink is served on the tables of bars in every square, starting from late afternoon. Light, fresh and bittersweet, Aperol Spritz is an essential player in our aperitivo ritual. Since it's always a good idea to have an aperitivo, make sure to have the essentials stored in your home bar at all times!

Did you know? Spritz is a German word (it doesn't sound very Italian, does it?). The concept of Spritz was born during the period of the Austrian Empire domination in North-Eastern Italy, during the 19th century. The soldiers of the Habsburg Empire who were stationed in Lombardy and Veneto, were not accustomed to the alcohol content of the local wines and started to ask to spray (spritzen, in German) a drop of water into the wine to make it lighter. Everything started with that request, but we had to wait until 1919 and the invention of Aperol to have the Spritz made the way we know it today.
